|| Motor Caravan ||

The motor caravan is the most widely used among this type of vehicle.

The living area is anchored onto the tractor chassis.
Even if different materials are used (wood, steel, etc.) the better motor caravans are very solid and robust in structure.

It is easy, looking at a motor caravan, to realize that its aerodynamic coefficient is scarce; it is impossible to exceed a speed of 120 km/h under safe conditions.
More importance and attention is given to a comfortable living area.
The motor caravan is also a popular vehicle, because it is the cheapest, offering at the same time a good level of quality.
The motor caravan is a suitable vehicle above all for families, even large ones: there are two ever-comfortable ready-made beds in the upper level (mansard); the inner space is, usually, wide and cosy. Everybody can do what they want.

However, there are some unpleasant aspects:

  • While travelling the passengers seated in the back cannot see well outside;
  • It is very long, bulky vehicle and at times it is hard to drive.
  • Since the vehicle is very heavy (just within the maximum load allowed by the transport regulations) the utmost caution is required while driving especially on long stretches downhill, when the brakes may overheat.
  • The length of the vehicle can cause problems when manoeuvring in city traffic.
  • The wide side surfaces, in case of side wind, forces the driver to have to compensate.
  • It is not a suitable vehicle for off-road driving, the creaking, that you can hear, is caused by little shocks in the whole structure that often become evident after several years.

When off the road the vehicle is very comfortable.
The inner living area is always adequate, and there are a large number of accessories from the freezer to the oven and many storage areas and compact furniture. The motor caravan is, in effect, a little house.
